Lead Cybersecurity Architect

Full Time Perm

Way of Work: remote

Salary: $125,800 - $188,600, plus annual bonus

The Cyber Security department at NiSource ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of NiSource assets to achieve the company mission. This team performs various measures to protect the company with a wide range of technologies to combat the latest threats in an ever-evolving landscape.

This team interfaces with business units and various stakeholders to ensure NiSource and Industry standards are considered and implemented throughout the various stages of the projects Lifecycle. The team is also responsible for collaborating with Enterprise and Solution Architects to ensure a holistic solution aligns with the most up to date enterprise architecture and Cybersecurity standards and technologies. 


The Lead Cybersecurity Architect's primary responsibility and accountability is to provide leadership for the current and future NiSource technology environment within a technology domain. This includes working with business leaders and service providers to develop and implement Cybersecurity architecture strategies, as well as developing methodologies and processes to ensure compliance to those strategies. The Lead Cybersecurity Architect is also responsible to develop and maintain Technology Roadmaps aligned with approved investments.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement an organization-wide information security strategy aligned with the business objectives and industry best practices.

  • Create, review, and enforce information security policies, standards and procedures to safeguard company data and assets.

  • Identify, assess, and prioritize information security risks and develop risk mitigation plans and controls to minimize exposure

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Assess and manage the Cybersecurity risks associated with third-party vendors and service providers.

  • Evaluate and recommend Cybersecurity technologies, tools, and solutions to enhance the organization’s security posture.

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of experience in SOC, incident response, IT audit and compliance, or related cybersecurity field

  • 3+ years of experience in Azure, AWS, GCP, or other cloud services (includes SaaS, CVaaS, PaaS, etc)

  • 3+ years of experience implementing security frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, HIPAA, GDPR)

  • 3+ years of experience utilizing tools such as Active Directory, Kubernetes, Jira, Archer, SharePoint, MS Office365

Preferred Qualifications

  • CISSP certification or industry recognized certifications of the same level

  • Familiarity with the Energy Sector (NERC, FERC, CIP)

  • Able to work effectively in an outsourced IT environment (Advanced proficiency)

  • Experience with and knowledge of legacy and new computing technologies (Advanced proficiency)

  • Experience working with a variety of technologies within a domain (Advanced proficiency)

  • Experience in developing solution alternatives to meet business needs (Advanced proficiency)

  • Awareness modern software lifecycle development and infrastructure as code (Advanced proficiency)
