Job Summary-
Manager will be responsible for reviewing and maintaining work papers supporting ASC 740 income tax accounting calculations, consolidation and communication involving income tax-related financial statement results. This responsibility impacts monthly tax provision, monthly forecasts, annual and 5 year financial plans, and unique transactions (i.e. purchase accounting, transaction support). Responsibilities include supervising and developing staff, issue identification and analysis, staying current on tax matters, coordinating within and outside the tax department, and interacting with outside auditors.
This position requires a self-motivated team player with GAAP and Tax technical experience, leadership and organization skills, effective and efficient communication, good project management, a history of producing high-quality timely work product, flexibility, and intellectual curiosity. The employee must strive for continuous improvement in process, deliverables, leadership and professional expertise.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and review effective tax rate, cash tax rate, tax account reconciliations, tax account analysis, tax reserves and all computational and reporting aspects of ASC 740
  • Preparation and review of tax forecasts including ETR, cash tax rates, and cash timing
  • Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business-related filings
  • Manage Deloitte audit of consolidated income tax provision and SOX 404 Controls
  • Research and develop tax accounting treatment of transactional events or projects, draft substantive documentation and analysis on such, and provide recommendations to the leadership team on tax accounting considerations on a proactive basis
  • Oversight of tax-related regulatory reporting requirements and provide tax assistance with regulatory initiatives including utility rate case support
  • Preparation and review of the impact of strategic business changes, tax planning and tax-related legislative developments on the income tax provision
  • Building team effectiveness by demonstrating, encouraging and mentoring leadership in the technical and professional development of direct reports
  • Develop cross-functional relationships with accounting, regulatory, financial planning and operations personnel.
  • Special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree In Accounting or equivalent
  • 4-6 years At least 5 years of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience at a publicly traded company, preferably with income tax provision and federal, state and local compliance experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting is required.
  • Strong analytical, tax technical and research skills required.
  • Must be result-driven, collaborative, and detail-oriented
  • Ownership of areas of responsibility and accountability in providing accurate and timely deliverables.
  • Ability to write technical memos and prepare presentations that are clear and persuasive, for both tax professionals and business partners.
  • Ability to clearly articulate expectations and desire to develop associates
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to effectively interface with Senior Leadership, but also to successfully teach and train staff and business partners
  • Collaborative problem-solving approach with the ability to build consensus for recommended solutions
  • Advanced Excel skills preferred. Proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Exposure to other technology tools –Alteryx, Tableau, or similar preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to handle multiple assignments

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Experience with automated tax systems such as CorpTax (provision, compliance) including tax depreciation software and ERP (Oracle or SAP) systems preferred
  • Utility industry experience is a plus, but not required
  • MST Upon Hire
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire

Salary Range:

$125,800.00 - $188,600.00
