Cybersecurity Analyst 

Full Time Perm 

Shift: Hybrid – 2 days onsite 3 days remote 

Location: Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN 

 

The Cybersecurity Department at NiSource is essential in protecting the organization's digital assets, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its resources. Our team addresses sophisticated cybersecurity threats with advanced technologies and methodologies, covering a wide range of disciplines including incident response, digital forensics, security engineering, network security, Zero Trust models, security awareness, data protection, and compliance. 

 

We enforce strict data security and privacy policies, manage data access, and secure information handling. Our responsibilities include automating and manually provisioning and de-provisioning access to data repositories to maintain a secure data environment. 

 

As a Cybersecurity Analyst focused on key areas like incident response, digital forensics, and network security, you will be instrumental in enhancing our cybersecurity measures. You will lead in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating security incidents, conducting digital forensic investigations, designing secure network architectures, promoting security awareness, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Your role is crucial in protecting NiSource against cyber threats, ensuring our infrastructure and sensitive data are secure. 

 

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist with the integration and secure management of our cloud infrastructure, working to ensure resilience and adherence to our cybersecurity standards. 

  • Contribute to the security of our applications by applying best practices throughout the software development lifecycle, from design to deployment. 

  • Participate in developing and maintaining robust network security protocols, which includes deploying state-of-the-art monitoring systems to safeguard our network. 

  • Utilize frameworks like NIST CSF to assist in analyzing threat data, contributing to the development of security strategies and countermeasures. 

  • Support incident response operations, help in forensic investigations, and contribute to organizational recovery efforts after security incidents. 

  • Aid in conducting penetration tests and ethical hacking to discover and address vulnerabilities, strengthening our cyber defenses. 

  • Help ensure that our cybersecurity practices are in line with necessary regulatory standards and compliance mandates. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • 1+ year of experience or education related work

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is preferred. Professional experience, military service, relevant certifications, industry tenure, or technical training may be considered as a substitute for formal education.  

  • Looking to learn deeper on cybersecurity principles, IT infrastructure, application security, and an understanding of network security protocols and cryptography. 

  • Familiarity with cloud security practices.  

  • Understanding of fundamental cybersecurity concepts such as the CIA triad (confidentiality, integrity, availability), threat modeling, risk management, etc. 

  • Attention to detail is vital for managing the intricacies of access rights, permissions, and policies. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Advanced degrees or professional certifications such as Security+, CEH, or equivalent. 

  • Willingness to learn as Cybersecurity is a rapidly evolving field, so a commitment to continuous learning and professional development is crucial. 

  • Ability to analyze data and security alerts to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities. 

  • Capability to think critically and solve complex problems under pressure. 

  • Vigilance in monitoring security systems and analyzing reports to detect any unusual activities. 

  • Effective communication skills are essential for explaining technical issues and security threats to non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and infrastructure (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, routing and switching). 

  • Knowledge of key IAM concepts such as digital identity lifecycle management, principle of least privilege, role-based access control (RBAC), and single sign-on (SSO).

Salary Range:

$77,400.00 - $160,500.00
