Job Title: Sr Gas Systems Planning Specialist
Job Code: MS0676
Job Summary
Create, update, maintain, validate, calibrate, and deliver gas distribution system models. Update and maintain databases and perform small scale system studies independently and performs larger system studies with no or minimal direction. Develop & design processes, technology interfaces & best practices for gas systems planning processes and associated training and documentation. Perform special studies and programs for business partners. Develop and design reports for Gas Systems Planning leadership. Support the development of best practices across the department. Supplement local GSP engineers and technicians to meet peak demands and provide emergency response.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the strategic, timely, accurate and cost effective creation, maintenance, and updating of the gas distribution system models: including: Create and verify connectivity of schematic graphics representing the gas distribution system, Update facility and customer load and location information, Verify and calibrate the system models using actual system information, Investigate & resolve discrepancies between modeled results and actual system data.
Run computer simulations and system studies for both normal and emergency conditions
Integrate Synergi Gas updates with current process requirements
Be the primary point of contact between Gas Systems Planning and the Nisource IT Departments
Perform basic coding to facilitate data integration and operation of Synergi Gas
Provide innovative solutions to software integration challenges
Testing of computer systems, software and interfaces
Provide analysis and information for critical valve isolation zones
Maintain current & accurate DIS/CIS market-system tables
Assist in the establishing of group goals, objectives, and priorities.
Liaison to field engineer to update DIS using digital information
Maintain QA/QC best practices for model building and updating
Drive department best practices & process standardization and operational excellence.
Fill in for GSP engineer & technician to meet peak demands and provide emergency response across Nisource
Manage departmental databases & provide useful data for leadership
Work on special projects
Promotes safe working environment and public safety.
Required Qualifications for Position
Associate Degree in an Engineering, or technology or GIS or gas industry related program with demonstrated knowledge of gas distribution operations and/or engineering.
Extensive experience using Synergi Gas software
Experience in building & maintaining Synergi Gas models
Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, GPS and other related technologies
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365
Demonstrated skills in preparing spreadsheets, databases, reports and presentations
Ability to read and accurately interpret operating maps and records.
Comprehension of gas systems and fundamentals of fluid mechanics.
Proficient with PC based applications, such as Microsoft 365, databases, or other spreadsheet applications.
Working knowledge of gas systems operation
In depth knowledge of Synergi Gas including model building & maintenance processes
Proven ability to use GIS
Proven knowledge of gas systems planning concepts
Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Access and Excel
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Advanced education in engineering, or GIS, or information technology
5 years of Gas Operations or Engineering Experience.
Experience in developing & maintaining applications with IT/IBM
Experience & Knowledge with Oracle
Experience in working with the NiSource Gas Operations Data Warehouse
Demonstrated leadership experience over complex programs or projects
Strong knowledge of mainframe applications: DIS/CIS & Work Management
This position can be located anywhere within the 6 state NiSource service territory.
