Job Summary 

 

The Energy Supply & Optimization internship will consist of a variety of assignments that support NIPSCO’s Electric Energy market activity. This position is responsible for participating in a goal-driven, team-oriented, high-performance department, and for promoting its culture throughout the broader organization. The Energy Supply & Optimization intern will be focused on supporting the Market Settlements staff and may also be provided opportunities for rotation within other departments in both the Electric and Gas business. A successful intern may maintain continued employment during the school year for part-time/remote work with the possibility of a second internship the following yearIn addition, a successful internship may lead to a full-time job opportunity within the Energy Supply & Optimization team or other NiSource department. 

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Performs daily settlement validation for Market Settlement activities in the electric energy market. 

  • Processes weekly and monthly payments to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) for settlement activities in the electric energy market. 

  • Aides market settlement staff in the month end closing process including the creation of journal entries and reports. 

  • Supports the back-office function for Renewable Energy Credit transactions. 

  • Assists on special projects as assigned, including: 

  • Power BI Report Development 

  • Update market or transmission settlement procedure documents  

  • Participates in additional opportunities as time allows, including: 

  • Day Ahead and Real Time Asset Optimization activities 

  • Regulatory and Business Planning (Electric and Gas market activity) 

  • Gas Scheduling and Accounting 

  • Electric and Gas Market policy 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications for Position 

 

  • A college student entering Junior or Senior year, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or an individual seeking their Masters in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. 

  • Must be self-directed, show initiative, and have the ability to perform duties effectively in a team-oriented environment. 

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office 

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position 

 

  • Knowledge of Power BI or other equivalent data analytics tool.
