Job Summary
The position will lead and oversee corporate development activities across NiSource including, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and partnerships. The position reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Risk and will collaborate closely with other leaders across the company to understand all components of NiSource’s Strategy and identify opportunities to advance strategic objectives organically and inorganically. The position will lead a team focused on corporate development as well as leverage resources from external advisors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Identify opportunities to enhance NiSource’s strategic positioning through corporate development activities including, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and partnerships
Direct ongoing analysis of NiSource’s portfolio of assets with respect to their contributions to NiSource’s strategic objectives and in relation to similar assets across the industry
Complete threat and opportunity assessments to identify areas of interest and potential opportunities
Lead analyses of potential corporate development opportunities, including strategic assessment, competitive and regulatory analysis, financial modeling, and business plan review
Coordinate end-to-end workstreams for corporate development projects including marketing, due diligence, deal negotiations and closing, communications and business integration across internal and external stakeholders
Prepare and present analyses and business cases at key executive-level meetings (Executive Leadership Team, Strategy Council, Board of Directors, etc.)
Build and maintain relationships with external parties including industry peers, investment banks and other advisors, staying abreast of activity across the industry
Ensure alignment and process coordination with key internal stakeholders including leaders in NiSource’s Utilities, Operations, Strategy & Risk, Finance, Legal, IT and Human Resources functions
Required Qualifications for Position
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Strategy, Statistics, Finance or related field
8 years in direct M&A transaction execution experience, utilizing financial capabilities and project management skills
Strong people leadership skills, focused on the personal and professional growth and development of others
Proven ability to collaborate and influence across all levels and functions with the organization to achieve outcomes through others
Ability to quickly establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect at an executive level
Proven program and project leadership experience on high impact, cross-functional initiatives
Ability to maintain professional discretion with sensitive, highly confidential, proprietary and competitive information at all times
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex or abstract ideas clearly and succinctly through verbal and written communications
Ability to consume and distill large quantities of information and develop insights from vast sources of information, including research reports, industry news, daily news publications, company press releases, etc.
Ability to develop and maintain complex financial models
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Strategy, Statistics, Finance or related field
Experience analyzing and executing on joint venture and partnership opportunities
Strong experience with legal aspects of transaction agreements
Utility industry experience, including knowledge and understanding of the regulatory construct and opportunities to expand that construct
