Job Title:  NIPSCO Project & Construction Management Intern

Job Code:  INT012-E

The 12-week NiSource Internship program starting May 20th, is a multi-faceted development experience that provides our interns with challenging and meaningful work that impacts the communities we serve. As a NiSource intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from senior leadership and build professional relationships with employees across our company. The NiSource Internship program also incorporates workshops to learn about NiSource, the energy industry and infuses learning and development opportunities that sharpen your professional skills. The robust program will aid in building the fundamentals needed to enter the energy workforce upon graduation.

We are recruiting interns for multiple locations:

Summary 

NiSource is currently seeking Summer Project & Construction Management Interns at our IN locations.  Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects.  These positions will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the Project & Construction Management fields.  Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities.  Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Opportunities are available in the following disciplines:

Electric Major Projects

Supports Electric Major Project’s team by assisting Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers and Construction Managers.

  • Manages the application of permits, preparation and execution of job orders, procurement of materials, processing of material invoices, tracking of materials, and preparation and submittal of close-out packets.
  • Maintains and monitors project files for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Supports the planning, estimating, scheduling, risk analysis, agreements for land, and engineering services.
  • Assists with the preparation of bid packets and contractor selection, additional project management of extraordinary electric transmission and distribution facilities and high profile projects requiring specialized project management support and oversight. 
  • Manages projects in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, ensuring safe reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner.  Collaborate and strategize with peers within NiSource companies and in industry to ensure cost effective project management. 
  • Assist Construction Managers with planning, scheduling, walk downs, layout and oversite of construction.

Compliance Training

Under general supervision, the Compliance Training intern will gather content to develop or enhance training material for the compliance training team. 

  • Develops Instructor-led and Computer Based Training modules for various departments and areas.
  • Reviews and assists with the development of new course content as needed.
  • Complies with all NERC training requirements within standard PER-005 and adheres to ethics policies.
  • Assists with the support of the maintenance and improvement of systems and software programs used by the NERC Compliance, CIP Compliance, Operations Technology, and Training area.  

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Current student of an accredited college/university pursuing a four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Education or Technology.
  • Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study
  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the summer
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Proficiency with PC applications and prefer strong skills with MS Excel & Access
  • Proven communication skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform duties effectively at all times.
  • GPA 3.0 and above
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
