Data Product Manager

Full Time Perm

Shift: Hybrid or Remote

Enterprise Data & Analytics is a new organization at NiSource.  Our team’s vision is to deliver sustainable value at the intersection of strategy and analytics. The Analytics Enablement & Platform Governance team will be responsible for the enablement of self-service analytical and business intelligence capabilities and development of business intelligence solutions, processes, standards and best practices for the enterprise

The Data Product Manager leads a team that is responsible for ensuring that the NiSource central Data Lakehouse is designed and developed as one source of the truth that will support current and future analytics uses cases.  The manager works closely with IT and with Data and Analytics teams to ensure that data is collected, transformed, and curated in adherence to design, development, and data governance standards and policies.  The ideal candidate has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of data architecture and database concepts in the Azure Cloud platform.  

 

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops, publishes, and monitors adherence to design standards for the NiSource enterprise data lake and legacy on premise data warehouse repositories

  • Develops a roadmap to support the collection, transformation, and curation of data that is required to support planned and emerging analytics needs

  • Develops the logical model for the enterprise data lake (including file system layout for non-DB files)

  • In partnership with IT and Business subject matter experts, develops mapping specifications for the IT team to follow in the development of the data lake 

  • Ensures that lineage is documented in the enterprise business glossary

  • Serves as a product owner for the IT Data Lake development team to develop a backlog and prioritize requirements

  • Partners with IT to develop strategies for and ensure the health of tools, platforms and processes that enable access to data for the purposes of analytics (e.g. vendor/license management, technology roadmaps, steady state support, administration) 

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates a team of 2 - 3 data and analytics professionals

  • Works with staff to develop performance and professional development plans and measures performance based on established criteria for the team

  • Recommends solutions to stay abreast of current business and market trends and best practices and data and analytics

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 7+ years of experience in any analytics capacity (data engineering, business intelligence (visualization/dashboard/reporting), data science, data analysis, business analysis, data governance) 

  • 1+ years of experience in SQL, data modeling principles (including star schema design), and data architecture

  • 1+ years of experience in designing or building Operational data stores, enterprise data warehouses, and Data Marts  

  • Proven experience building organizational talent  

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with business and IT partners to achieve organizational objectives 

 

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on experience developing a data warehouse or data lake in an Azure Cloud environment

  • Hands on experience with data modeling tools

  • Experience with a regulated utility

  • Diverse background that brings experience of having worked across multiple data domains    

  • 2+ years of people leadership experience    

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills    

  • Experience with technology and awareness of latest trends   

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
