Fleet Technical Trainer/OJT Coach

Job Summary

The Fleet Technical Trainer/OJT Coach plans, prepares and delivers training programs to meet the development needs of the employees. Supports the training effort by focusing on coaching, mentoring, and developing employees through hands-on training and knowledge transfer.  Takes actions to ensure the employee is successful in their role, properly trained, and able to execute their work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all federal, state, local and company requirements. 

Provides support and feedback to employees and leadership while providing a resource in the field to shorten the time to mastery. Assess course and curriculum development. Provides quality, timely and innovative training curriculum, including but not limited to: safety and applications along with training within Fleet Operations job classifications. Ensures assigned employees are properly applying knowledge and skills acquired through successful training and development.  Duties include providing input into the job progression of employees. Builds and maintains working relationships with operations while meeting their business needs. 

This role also makes final determination on employee training and work readiness/progression status.  Works together with operations to determine employee competency and deliver competency training as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 1: 

  • Leads learning events to build student knowledge and skills with a primary focus fleet maintenance activities. 
  • Integrates classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, and on the job training (OJT) events that maximize student learning.
  • Delivers training initiatives that provide practical experience for employees to build employee mastery.
  • Identifies and recommends classroom and hands on training activity improvements while working with the curriculum team to continually improving training activities.
  • Sign off and track completed tasks within their respective step progression.
  • Partners with field operations and support operations to continue to develop relevant content.
  • Directs the planning, execution, delivery, and facilitation coordination of training programs in specified discipline.
  • Manage and direct the work of trainees while in training courses.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by actively participating in all aspects of employee safety program and support our interdependent safety culture by ensuring the safety of co-workers.
  • Estimated travel up to 20%

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 2: (Includes Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 1 duties plus):

  • Independently provides learning activities for more complex courses to improve student knowledge.
  • Oversees training of Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 1
  • Implements/trains learning initiatives that provide practical experience for employees.
  • Identifies and reacts to learning opportunities, while developing employees towards masterly level of job roles.
  • Partners with operations management to identify training needs and delivers programs to ensure compliance.
  • May be required to document activities that may result in disciplinary measures.
  • Applies applicable collective bargaining unit agreement as it pertains to training and coaching.
  • Researches, analyzes and applies current technology and related training by reviewing periodicals, journals, attending seminars, etc. to continuously improve training courses.

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 3: (Includes Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 2 duties plus):

  • Leads learning events that build student knowledge and skill with a primary focus on fleet activities. 
  • Directs classroom training, hands on practice and simulation, and on the job training (OJT) events that maximize student learning.
  • Implements/trains learning initiatives that provide practical experience for employees.
  • Subject matter expert for curriculum development
  • Leads a training governance program.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with front line leaders to be aware of trainee experiences and knowledge.
  • Monitors energy industry trends, analyzes potential impacts and recommends strategic approaches.

Required Qualifications for Position

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 1:

  • 1+ years of experience in automotive industry and/or background in training within a related skilled trade or in training military personnel
  • Experience delivering effective technical training programs.
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of PC applications/skills
  • Valid driver's license

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 2: (Includes Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 1 qualifications plus):

  • 3+ years of experience in automotive industry and/or background in training within a related skilled trade or in training military personnel
  • Experience delivering effective technical training & evaluation programs.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the programs assigned.
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license

Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 3: (Includes Technical Trainer/OJT Coach 2 qualifications plus):

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive industry and/or background in training within a related skilled trade or in training military personnel
  • Directs coaching and hands on practice and simulation, with a focus on (OJT) tasks that maximize student learning.
  • Extensive experience in delivering effective technical training & evaluation programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance and operating procedures and processes used in the programs assigned.
  • Previous experience as a facilitator for various size groups
  • Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of PC applications/skills (PST, LMS, Onboard, WMS, MDTs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement (where applicable)
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or other technical related certifications or equivalent field experience.
  • Commercial Driver’s License
