Job Summary

The Process Safety Projects Engineer is the primary contact for technical risk assessment and management for capital projects and electric assets.  This position will be responsible for delivering the necessary competencies to support the NiSource process safety risk assessment process.  The implementation of a process safety risk based approach will entail development and implementation of process documentation, procedures and training in process risk assessment techniques such as process hazards analysis, pre start-up safety review, and technical management of change reviews. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with and consistently applies NiSource approved Process Safety Risk Assessment methodologies by directing, teaching and mentoring on the application of the methodology in Process Hazards Analysis, Management of Changes, and other Process Safety Assessments.
  • Leads process safety risk assessments on NiSource assets and work processes to determine the residual risk and ensure safety in design to manage the risks as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Coaches, mentors and provides technical advice on risk assessment for Engineering, H&S, and Operations.
  • Develops, analyzes, process safety data and develops reports to improve NiSource procedures, systems and processes.
  • Develops, implements and coaches on NiSource Pre-Start-up Safety Review Process Owner – Pigging, LNG, Welding, MOC Interface.
  • Serves as team lead for Level 1, 2 or 3 incident investigations as needed. Coaches and mentors others in the incident investigation process
  • Coaches and mentors Asset Class Owner(s) and SMS State leads on process safety risk assessment knowledge and skills for assigned area.
  • Participate in Process Safety Audits and responsible for conducting the analysis and providing recommendations for areas of risk in order to mitigate issues.
  • Performs jobsite analysis to determine employee understanding of process safety critical equipment and critical activities completed to maintain the equipment to validate the effectiveness independent protection layers.
  • Works with the managers of human reliability and incident investigation and manager of process safety risk assessment and management to implement, mentor and measure the effectiveness of process owned by the NiSource Department of Process Safety.
  • Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelors of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Safety Engineering.
  • Preferred Qualifications for Position

  • 3+ years of Process Safety Experience. Consideration will be given to other equivalent work history.

    Salary Range:

    $86,300.00 - $129,500.00
