Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc. is looking for safety-conscious individuals with enthusiasm, customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, an excellent driving record and a willingness to learn. Natural gas technical experience preferred, but not required. Our comprehensive training program will provide you with the necessary skills and abilities to be successful. 

Please Note: This job posting will cover Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania South locations and field job titles. We currently only have future openings for Street Service A and Construction Equipment Operator in Charleroi and Uniontown areas.

Plant/Service Specialist (Technician)
The Plant/Service Specialist (Technician) will work with the operation, installation, repair and maintenance of gas distribution facilities such as main lines and services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as Street Service A (crew leader) over what will normally be a Plant crew engaged in leak repair, service line installation and all phases of Plant work. The Plant/Service Technician will drive an assigned truck, maintain truck inventory and handle necessary paperwork. The Plant/Service Technician will be responsible for the work while at the job
  • The Plant/Service Technician will also be responsible for all types of customer service work and other related work necessary to render gas service to
  • The Plant/Service Technician must be available for overtime, emergency, and call-out work for both Plant and Service
  • Must have a CDL within 24 months from the date of

Required Qualifications for Position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude and be able to use various tools in the installation and repair of gas distribution facilities.
  • Perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven track record of comprehending and implementing company policies and procedures.
  • Requirement to maintain applicable OQ qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass applicable plant and service strength tests.
  • Must be dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
  • Requires skills in reading/interpreting gauges and dials.
  • Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • On call, able to work overtime and respond to emergency call-outs.
  • Must be able to read and interpret highway prints and company inventory maps.
  • Must be able to document records, understand oral and written communications and prepare legible orders.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete assignments with little or no direct supervision.
  • Requires ability to organize and prioritize duties
  • Must have strong oral and interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by successful interactions with others where tact and diplomacy are needed.
  • Must have a safe work & driving record to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have demonstrated computer experience.
  • Appropriate class of driver's license is required. Required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
     

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position:

  • Twelve months of gas distribution, construction, plumbing or equivalent work experience preferred, but not required.
  • Computer software experience preferred.
  • Experience in the plumbing trade or in field operations in the natural gas industry is preferred

Service Technician / Customer Service

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as lead employee over one or more employees engaged in pinpointing leakage, making repairs, and replacing services or portions of mains. 
  • Testing and inspecting service lines according to policy/procedures and approved codes.
  • Must be able to use various types of tools needed for repairs of plant facilities.
  • Must be able to prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must have ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices preferred.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Required Qualifications for Position:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be capable of passing applicable physical capacity tests.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with limited direction.
  • Requires the ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to document records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge and/or experience of hand tools is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult customer situations with tact and diplomacy is required.
  • Prefers computer software experience.

Street Service A

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to operate company assigned equipment, locate, install, repair and replace gas distribution facilities.
  • Coordinates, oversees and guides the activities associated with natural gas construction.
  • Operates line locator to locate and mark pipelines and curb boxes. Repairs curb boxes as needed and performs critical valve inspections.
  • Must have a CDL within 24 months from the date of hire.
  • Other duties as assigned
     

Required Qualifications for Position:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be capable of passing applicable physical capacity tests.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with limited direction.
  • Requires the ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to document records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge and/or experience of hand tools is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult customer situations with tact and diplomacy is required.
     

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Prefers computer software experience.
     

Construction Equipment Operator

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates light earth-moving equipment, for example backhoe, dump truck, side boom, and tamper.
  • Duties include operating and maintenance of said equipment.
  • Transportation of equipment and/or materials.
  • Assists crew with installation and repair of mains and services.
  • Class A CDL required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Required Qualifications for Position:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be capable of passing applicable physical capacity tests.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with limited direction.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to document records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge and/or experience of hand tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult customer situations with tact and diplomacy.

Locator Technician

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Locate underground utilities in response to PA One Call.
  • Must be able to read maps and interpret information.
  • Responsi.ble for submitting map revisions.
  • Must be able to become OQ qualified in all duties relevant to the area of Line Locating.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be capable of passing applicable physical capacity tests.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through on assignments with limited direction.
  • Requires the ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to document records and understand written and oral communications.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge and/or experience of hand tools is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult customer situations with tact and diplomacy is required.

Columbia Gas Living Requirements:

PA South:

All new employees responding to PR’s, EI’s and Emergency Locates, are required as a condition of employment, to reside and maintain residence no more than 30 minutes travel time, under ordinary travel conditions, from their reporting location and reside in the reporting location area.

All other new hires, are required, as a condition of employment, to reside and maintain residence within their reporting location area within six (6) months of their hire date.
