People power our success

At NiSource, our success depends on our ability to be open to new ways of thinking that can help make us a better community partner and a stronger company. Here, inclusion and diversity (I&D) is not simply a corporate goal, but an important part of our culture. Our commitment extends from our Board of Directors and our top executives into every area of the organization. Diversity is an essential part of who we are at NiSource — it helps us meet our commitment to customers and creates richer, more rewarding careers for everyone on our team.

NiSource I&D Councils

Cultivating and advancing an inclusive environment for all NiSource employees is the goal of our I&D Councils. Employees on our I&D Councils work to promote learning, raise awareness, guide and provide feedback on company-wide inclusion and diversity efforts. Our Councils help us achieve our business goals through implementing initiatives that encourage diverse perspectives and inclusive behaviors, participating in and sponsoring local activities and events.

NiSource Employee Resource Groups

Common interests and a shared sense of purpose are what fuel the NiSource Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). Open to all employees, our ERGs such as Generating Opportunities for Latinos and Diversity (GOLD), assist in welcoming and mentoring new employees, offer professional development and cultural awareness, and provide community support through scholarships and volunteerism.

When you join us, you’ll find our working environment one in which your unique talents, ideas and perspectives are encouraged and respected.

A diverse supply chain

Central to NiSource’s vision is a supplier diversity program that strengthens and widens the playing field for suppliers that are typically underutilized in the supply chain of a large corporation. Building relationships with diverse suppliers helps us engage a wider range of suppliers, which means we harness innovative ideas and processes, gain a competitive advantage and assist in building community infrastructure through employment and training.

We’re committed to offering diverse suppliers an opportunity to succeed. Click here to learn more about our Supplier Diversity program.

Key partnerships

Our participation in associations like American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) offers NiSource leaders the opportunity to develop personally and professionally. An organization dedicated to ensuring African Americans and other minorities have a voice in the development of energy policies regulations, R&D technologies and in the discussion of environmental issues, we’re proud to be a part of their work.

As part of our commitment to recruit and build a diverse workforce, we partner with organizations such as the National Urban League and  National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
