Energizing the communities we serve
In support of our aspiration to become North America's Premier Regulated Energy Company, we consider it a priority to give back to the community. Through the NiSource Charitable Foundation’s Supporting Those in Need campaign, we're helping to create stronger and more sustainable communities where NiSource employees and customers live, work and play. In response to continued economic challenges in many of the communities where NiSource companies operate the company, its employees and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, are joining forces to contribute to local organizations providing food, clothing, shelter and other basic needs to individuals and families. The Supporting Those in Need campaign is expected to result in contributions of more than $3.5 million during 2010, an increase of more than 10% over 2009 giving.
We are continually connecting with our communities through:
- Charitable donations, such as those made by NiSource Gas Transmission & Storage (NGT&S) to the Tug Valley and Big Sandy Chapters of the American Red Cross that helped residents get back on their feet after their communities were devastated by flood
- Community outreach activities, like the ones held by Columbia Gulf Transmission (CGT) at Delhi, Louisiana. that help local citizens better know us and consider us a community partner
- Participation in community events. You’ll find NiSource employees actively involved in their communities in many ways, from organizing blood drives, to taking an active part in local fundraising events.
NiSource also supports and offers a wide range of energy assistance and efficiency programs to help customers in need. Now, more than ever, these programs are important to customers seeking to better manage their energy bills.

The NiSource family of companies actively supports environmental organizations and initiatives in the communities they serve. For example, Northern Indiana Public Services Company (NIPSCO) has a long-standing commitment to land conservation in northwest Indiana. In 2009, the company contributed to the
Shirley Heinze Land Trust to help with the purchase of 30 acres on the Little Calumet River in Chesterton, Indiana, that will be used to make fishing, boating, hiking and educational opportunities available for the public.

Throughout our operating areas, our team members are involved first-hand with community and charitable organizations and volunteer programs that have a real impact on the areas in which they live.
Through efforts like our Dollars for Doers volunteer program, we support a wide range of community service activities and initiatives involving our employees. From fundraising events to food drives, tutoring and countless other efforts, our team members devote their time and talents to help create a brighter future for their communities.

Employees at NiSource’s Gas Operations Integration Center in Columbus led a month-long effort to provide toys, food and money for families at the Ronald McDonald House at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Thanks to their efforts, more than 60 bags of gifts, plus cash and dozens of boxes of food, made their way to the families of seriously ill children who would otherwise have had little under the tree on Christmas morning.

NiSource/Columbia Gas team members were among 45,000 people who ran or walked to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
